FEED THE CHANGE: My Food Systems Story
Author: John Aggrey (Founder & CEO, HIRED Consult & Active Member- Youth Focus Group in support of UN Food Systems Summit, MGCY)
Growing our own food opens up a great opportunity thereby reduces the pressure on the environment by commercial agriculture. It is about starting small and planting things you’d really like to eat. This has been my journey to contribute to the Food Systems; Backyard Garden!
Having founded HIRED Consult (a youth-led and youth-focused enterprise) everything about nature, environment, biodiversity, and climate change has been the heartbeat to us.
The United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS 2021) has come at a time the world needs to shift to responsible production and consumption if we are to End Hunger, and Malnutrition. On the backdrop of this, I am happy spearheading and supporting youth-led initiatives with the objective to create an enabling platform for youth voices and individuals engaged in the functioning and value chain of food systems in Africa and globally.
Project “Feed The Change” is social advocacy to raise awareness and encourage and inspire people especially the Youth into organic backyard gardening (Sustainable Smart Agriculture) with the resultant in addressing Climate Change, Food Security, and Unemployment.
In total, I have convened five (5) Independent Food Systems Dialogues and assisted with 3.
I am a #FoodSystemsHero because I want to join the global movement for safe, accessible, sustainable, and equitable food systems — and making a commitment to learn, share, gather and act for robust and resilient food systems. I am committed to support the UNFSS 2021!
